Đắk Lắk 2025: All About the "Coffee Capital" - New Version from Highlands to the Sea

No longer just Vietnam's coffee capital, Đắk Lắk has now reached out to the vast ocean after an unprecedented merger. Đắk Lắk's Geography: A Remarkable Transformation
After the milestone of July 1, 2025, Đắk Lắk's geography has been completely redefined. It is no longer a province consisting solely of highlands.
The merger of the entire Phú Yên province into Đắk Lắk has created a giant administrative unit, stretching from the majestic Trường Sơn mountain range to the turquoise East Sea. The new Đắk Lắk province now boasts a beautiful coastline, bordering Gia Lai, Khánh Hòa, Lâm Đồng provinces, and even the Kingdom of Cambodia. This unique combination makes Đắk Lắk the only province in Vietnam with diverse terrain ranging from vast highlands to pristine coastlines, opening up enormous development potential.

This is one of the most breakthrough changes and needs to be updated with the highest accuracy. The new Đắk Lắk province has implemented a bold administrative reform: completely eliminating district-level administration. The government organizational model is now streamlined into two levels: Provincial and Commune/Ward levels.
The entire province currently has 102 commune-level administrative units (including 88 communes and 14 wards) directly managed by the province. This creates a streamlined, more efficient administrative apparatus, and Local Trips notes that this also makes it easier for tourists to learn about and plan trips to specific destinations without going through multiple intermediate levels.

After the administrative unit rearrangement in 2025, the new Đắk Lắk province has a total of 102 commune-level units, including 82 communes and 14 wards formed after adjustments, along with 6 communes that remain unchanged, without merging. The six unchanged communes are: Ea H’Leo, Ea Trang, Ia Lốp, Ia Rvê, Krông Nô, and Vụ Bổn.
